The Carbon Hearts so earned their name from being gear heads, taking the idea of the engine being the heart of a car. What started as a small, unruly bike gang, grew over the years into a hungry occupation. The Ilsangui families across the Kalamat system with their revered mafioso families looked down on the Carbon Hearts as being nothing better than rebel yelling thugs in the beginning. Though under the tutelage of the Russo family, who have been figureheads of the gang for the past 40 years, have transformed the gang into a refined spread of racketeering operations. With majority hold in L1, they have dug their claws in places as far as L3 with influences in station politics as far as UICAF and UNIC. With their recent alliance with the Wild 99 gang on L3, they are considering shifting the majority of operations out of the dregs in L1.
codes of conduct
  • Rituale, when an initiate is ready to become a 'made man' and enter the ranks of the Carbon Hearts. They will receive approval through the ranks, usually by the capobastone, who will assign them a difficult job to test their skills. If they pull it off, they are accepted. The following night, the family will gather to perform the initiation rites and the family will celebrate from dusk till dawn.
  • Omertà, code of silence. All made men of the Carbon Hearts take an oath of silence upon initiation. This forbids mafiosi from betraying their comrades to the authorities. The penalty for transgression is death, and relatives of the turncoat may also be murdered.
  • Facciata, the Carbon Hearts put a lot of value in their image and expect their mafiosi uphold their values. Mafiosi are discouraged from consuming alcohol or other drugs, as in an inebriated state they are more likely to blurt out sensitive information. Visible tatoos and body modifications, including augments are not allowed. They also frequently adopt self-effacing attitudes to strangers so as to avoid unwanted attention. Any mafiosi that bring damage to the gangs facciata may face severe consequences.
  • Etichetta, respect of rank and appropriate behavior is expected between members. Mafiosi of equal status may call each other "compare"(comerade), while inferiors call their superiors "padrino"(godfather).

IV.caporegime, the command of smaller units of soldato usually overseeing a specific racket.
